Rather, they promote the low rate that may have been available at one go to get you to make a booking, if the rate is different, you are paying the surcharge or processing charge to opt out of the agreement.

You can probably book 80% of the flight at the best rate directly with the carrier. However, several instances I have been saving several hundred bucks through third-party websites.
Despite many researches I could not find the same rates directly at the airlines. However, if you need to work with a certain amount, you should also look at third-party websites. I have used Orbit, Expedia and Traveocity without any problems. But for $300 or $500 a persons that is the kind of the savings I have gotten from these sites, Ill take the probability.

Like others have said, in relation to third party booker the questions and I find less trouble directly and most carriers I have handled let me reserve output seat when I have posted inline.
I have Expedia, booking.com etc. for properties without problems and probably half the times directly when the property is least expensive. And for australia, if it's a brief intergovernmental journey, I sometimes use wwotif but not much than sometimes less expensive on booking. com or even refer most of the times.
However last case I did a wwotif information building and got the building I craved to act in $70 bargain-priced per dark (advantage of the abstraction magnitude).
