Before the Priceline Group realized that there was a chance to conquer the B2B car hire business, it was only a question of years. It took a quiet step this weekend to test car hire suppliers by introducing its own B2B department for the RentalCars name.
Rental Cars had previously worked with a number of affiliates to offer them a whitelabel copy of the website, but the procedure has now been formalized with the launch of Rental Cars Connect. Priceline Group has not formally unannounced the services, but the people behind it will go to the fairs in the next few month with a concert advance to sharpen their profiles.
Briefly (and referred to in private by those involved), Priceline intends to take over CarTrawler, which has experienced massive growth in recent years and offers whitepalms and other tools for a number of on-line tourist agents, hotels and airlines. People with relatively long reminiscences will notice the Ironicity of Priceline Group competing against CarTrawler, as it was strongly thought that it was considering an offer to buy the business in 2010 but decided to purchase Jigsaw in the UK instead.
In the end, Travel Jigsaw developed into a consumer-oriented RentalCars family. RentingCars Connect says it has car hire offer from 28,000 sites around the globe, in 9,300 towns. More than 50 carriers already use the services, the airline states. The CarTrawler Group has 30,000 sites in 174 nations and currently works with companies such as Air Lingus, Emirates, Skyscanner, WestJet and AirAsia.
Adding a proprietary business-to-business solution to an established franchise reflects what is going on elsewhere around the Priceline Group by driving business-to-business applications such as sales, web designing and hotel sales through a separate department within Booking.com.
